save that as a collectible and buy a knockoff for real use
nice thing about this knife is the high carbon content, makes it easier to sharpen |

I would put that baby away because WW2 USMC fighting knives have buku collectible value to them especially with the original sheath.
I wouldnt carry that knife at all. They still make both the Ka-Bar version and the Camillus version of the USMC fighting knives. I would buy one of those to carry instead. Thats just my opinion though. |

You can still buy the KA-BAR brand new. I've got one full-size (7" blade), and one smaller size with a 5.25" blade.

That's for the full-size w/ straight edge. They've got all sorts, though... serrated, the smaller size, commemorative ones, and then all their other varieties besides the classic military fighting knife. I bought both of mine from an outdoor store, and I think they were a bit less than listed on the ka-bar site. They're some damn tough knives. |

Re: Guys L@@K - picked up a WWII - USMC knife this weekend !
lets have another one of those debates. for fighting, single edge vs dagger. I believe the bowie style knife is clearly inferior to the double edged blade. to my one of the best designs is the Fairbai rnSykes knife:

Ordered one of these (Czech V257 bayonet) from Sportsman's Guide.

I prefer the Applegate Fairbairn to the Fairbairn Sykes. The AF offers a stronger blade that cuts better and is easier to get good penetration with because it has a better designed guard/handle interface that won't punish you for a hard stab.
Bowies are good and a proper bowie has a back edge 1/3 the length of the blade. The khukhuri is not as nimble but offers a decent thrust and devestating chop. The Smatchet it a beast. A true double edged dagger is good but not necessary for me. I do like having a back edge though because I know how to do a couple tricks with it that just about always find their mark. |
Here ya go !
No, no, no, no.........now HERE's the Ultimate winner !!! :D

Here's my dive/survival knife. I probably need to attach a lanyard. The image is somewhat deceptive, it's a fullsize knife.

I have taken it diving quite a few times, and always wash it clean after use, and apply a light coat of sewing machine oil before it goes back into storage. One time I was out diving, someone on the beach spotted a shark, that was fun, so I always feel a bit better carrying it when snorkelling, and I always take it, as it gives me a fighting chance underwater. Came across some fishing tackle snags and stuff too, and it's perfect for slashing through that underwater (often score free fishing tackle that way too!). The funny thing about it, is it cost like $26.00 and it is apparently made of surgical stainless steel. It is very sharp, and holds its edge. On the opposite side to the main blade, it has what is basically a saw, and a line cutter. If I find another, I'll buy it in a second, as they are a great knife, very strong in construction, and the pommel can be used to break things too. No, there are no secret survival gadgets in the pommel, it's just a solid chunk of stainless. |
